Suicide is consistently a leading cause of death among Albertans. Suicide claims more lives annually than other more openly discussed issues such as motor vehicle collisions, AIDS or homicide.
More than 400 people in Alberta die by suicide every year. Additionally, there are approximately 6,000 emergency room visits and approximately 2,000 hospitalizations for self-inflicted injuries each year.
