Community and Social Supports

Having strong support systems in place is essential for people who have mental health problems or mental illnesses that are disruptive to or adversely affect their day-to-day lives. Community and social supports such as adequate and affordable housing and viable income alternatives enhance their quality of lives and positively impact recovery.

Homelessness, lack of affordable, appropriate housing and other crucial community supports, limited housing options for people discharged from hospitals and treatment centres, those who are battling both mental health and substance use disorders, and involuntary interrupted employment periods are examples of mental health issues and concerns that can be alleviated or rectified with the appropriate supports.
