Concurrent Disorders
A concurrent disorder is a condition in which a person has both a mental illness and a substance use problem. An example of this is someone who is depressed and misuses alcohol.
Dual Diagnosis is another way to describe someone who has both a mental health problem and a substance abuse problem.
Drug-Induced Psychosis
Use of, or withdrawal from alcohol and drugs can be associated with the appearance of psychotic symptoms. Sometimes these symptoms will rapidly resolve as the effects of the substances wear off.In other cases, the illness may last longer, but begin with a drug-induced psychosis.
